Up in the air with an 85-year-old inspiration

HERVEY Bay man Owen Hill has wished to be a pilot almost his entire life.

So when his daughter Carol won a Seaplane Adventure Flight for two, she knew exactly who she would take with her.

Owen recently turned 85 and was more than thrilled with his birthday surprise.

"It was marvellous to take off on the water, I haven't done that before," he said.

Although Owen was not the oldest passenger flown by Paradise Seaplanes in Hervey Bay - the record to date is 94-years-old - a Paradise Seaplanes representative said he was certainly one of the most enthusiastic.

Owner-operator Shawn Kelly said the company really enjoyed senior passengers.

"Our adventure flights are very popular locally," he said.

"It certainly is one of those things on your bucket list."
