THE Tweed avoided any major incidents during storms on Tuesday night.

Murwillumbah State Emergency Service commander Mark Cowan said while his crews had no callouts to fallen trees or damaged rooves, he was aware the fire brigade attended a number of calls where lightning strikes had set off fire alarms in buildings around the town.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, storms could return to the Northern Rivers on Wednesday night.

Showers are predicted to continue on Thursday.
