All-ages gig promises to showcase local emerging talent
ROUNDING up eight bands and a DJ for a joint show seems like quite a task, but it was no sweat for 17-year-old Jay Varudo.
THE AFEX Autumn Affair will feature a variety of local talent, playing at the Cudgen Leagues Club on May 25 from 4pm to 10.
"There's a lack of music venues on the Tweed Coast," AFEX bassist and vocalist Jay Varudo said.
"So we've got a great amount of musicians in the area with nowhere to play.
Jay said the all-ages event would allow emerging regional musicians to test their talent in front of a live audience, with some acts appearing on stage for the first time.
"This really helps the young guys out," Jay said.
"It's a great family event, with local music and it's a nice environment.
"I'm hoping for around 200 people minimum."
Jay said that the show would feature a wide range of eclectic musical genres, ranging from folk and alternative to a rap duo.
He said Cudgen Leagues Club was welcoming the Autumn Affair with open arms.
"They're pretty cool with it," Jay said.
"We've done one before called the Summer Slam and we got such a great response to it."
Jay said he had enjoyed organising the event, which he was hoping would attract strong support from the Tweed community.
"Been pretty fun, I love doing stuff like that."
"It's going to be a great day for music."
The event will be headlined by Jay's own band AFEX, with Goodbye Gravity, Midnight Snack and others also lined up to hit the stage.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at the AFEX Autumn Affair Facebook page.
