All pets big and small at expo
GOLD Coast Pet and Animal Expo 2011 is gearing up to be one of the biggest yet.
Gold Coast City Council will host the ninth annual free expo this Saturday and Sunday at Varsity Lakes Central Park Oval from 9.30am to 4pm both days.
The star attraction will be Bondi Vet Dr Chris Brown, who will be at the Gold Coast Animal Management stand throughout both days offering lots of advice.
Cr Jan Grew said it is an event not to be missed, with 100 exhibitors already booked.
"The annual two-day expo is definitely a must-do if you love animals or want to pamper your own pets," Cr Grew said.
"Displays and exhibitors will include the most amazing goods and services that range from photography, pet grooming and the latest in accessories to care for your pet's health."
One of the signature events at this year's expo and a personal favourite of Cr Grew's is the sci-fi pets' dress-up competition on Sunday at 10.15am.
"Being a Star Trek and Star Wars fan, my personal favour- ite at the pageant promises to be the sci-fi pets section - guaranteed to beam me up a crowd from the outer reaches of the universe," she said.
Attendance is expected to reach 20,000.
Other highlights include dock-diving dogs, Queensland Police horses and an RSPCA Pet Photo booth.
National Pet Registry will also be offering $25 microchipping for cats and dogs, for which bookings are essential.
Other exhibitors include Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Guide Dogs Queensland, Animal Welfare League and RSPCA Queensland.
