Alleged naked police car thief wins bail

A MAN who allegedly stole a police car from a Maroochydore crash scene while naked was now on medication, a court has heard.

Cameron Scott Noad was in custody when he made his second appearance in Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday.

The court heard that a bail application at Mr Noad's first appearance was adjourned to allow an assessment of his medical health.

Mr Noad, 26, of Golden Beach, was arrested on November 30 after witnesses saw him allegedly strip and get into a police car which had been parked near an accident scene on the corner of Aerodrome Rd and Maud St.

The car was found a short time later at the intersection of Ocean St and Beach Rd.

Lawyer Michael Robinson said Mr Noad had been assessed, was voluntarily taking medication, and his mental health was now described as "stable".

Mr Robinson said his client would receive follow-up care if released in the community and his girlfriend consented to him staying with her.

Mr Noad was granted bail to appear again on January 22.

He thanked the magistrate twice as he was led away.
