Alpaca injury was a crime of passion

DAWN Perryman has been breeding alpacas for more than 20 years.

However, things did not go according to plan on Wednesday, when a male alpaca became over excited and in his haste to chase a female alpaca, knocked over Mrs Perryman.

"I need to make it very clear," Mrs Perryman said.

"I was not attacked.

"I had a young female in a stable and put a stud male in with her but she did not want a male near her.

"As I opened the stable door to let her out, the male pushed through to follow her.

"I flattened myself against the wall, but in his haste to get out, I was knocked down. It was purely an accident."

Mrs Perryman called an ambulance because her shoulder was hurt and she had difficulty standing up.

No bones were broken, but she was bruised and sore.

"I am appalled that Channel 7 took photos of my farm without my permission and then put an item on their news that was absolutely incorrect.

"I am shocked that Channel 7 sees fit to chase ambulances for news. I have no idea from whom or where they got the (incorrect) information."

Mrs Perryman was also upset when a reporter from the station rang the hospital and her, while she was getting treatment for her shoulder, wanting to talk to her.

"I have never been attacked by an alpaca," she said. "I have conducted hundreds of matings. Alpacas are gentle creatures. However, like all male animals, when sex is on their mind, they can be single-minded."
