Another truck attempts to take the Tugun tunnel

COMMUTERS on the Tugun bypass have had to deal with a lot of interruption on their usually free flowing drive to work lately.

Earlier today south bound commuters were going at snail pace due to roadworks.

Yesterday was a similar situation.

And if you were unlucky enough to be travelling north bound through the Tugun tunnel at peak hour last night, you would have seen the over sized truck that tried to get through.

A spokeswoman from Transport and Main Roads said at 5.26pm a vehicle was detected by the over height sensor.

"The driver moved to the side of the Tugun bypass, as directed, before entering the tunnel, therefore there was no damage to department infrastructure," the spokeswoman said.

"As a result, the northbound lanes of the Tugun bypass were closed for about 12 minutes, causing some traffic delays."

It took until 10.30pm to remove to truck.

"The vehicle was reversed under traffic guidance to the nearest exit," the spokeswoman said.

"This meant the northbound lanes were closed for 45 minutes and traffic was diverted to the Gold Coast Highway.

Transport and Main Roads said they were not aware "if the relevant authority has taken any action against the driver."
