A bright start to season

NORTH Burleigh's junior lifesavers kicked off their 2005-06 season in style this week with a strong showing at the Queensland Junior Endurance Classic Ironmania held at Coolangatta.

The Gold Coast club produced four of the day's 12 ironman winners, with Zac Whenuaroa racing to victory in the under 11 category, Phoebe Jeffery unstoppable in the girl's under 11 event, Jordan Hart winning the boy's under 13 competition and Kristen Askew the top under 17 ironwoman.

Northcliff's Cameron McEvoy (under 12 boys) and Lennox Head's Tanyn Lyndon (under 14 boys) also won their respective divisions.

More than 160 competitors from across Queensland and NSW from under 11 through to under 17 competed.

Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesman Peter Roberts said the standard of performance was excellent.
