ENJOYING the friendliness of life in rural Tweed, especially around Tyalgum, is single mother Selina Heathwood

A ?friendly community

SELINA Heathwood moved with her six-year-old daughter to a small property at Pumpenbil near Tyalgum six months ago because she loved the natural beauty of the place.

But even renting in the country is not as cheap as it once was, as Ms Heathwood found out.

"It's so beautiful here and my daughter Zahlia loves the school ... we live on five acres right under The Pinnacle ... even though it's a ridiculous amount of rent, we love it here because it's so nice and far more beautiful than Rosebank where I lived before," she said.

The single mother said that at the time she had to move she couldn't find anywhere else to rent, but discovered Tyalgum and found it to have "a lovely friendly community".

As she left the general store, lifetime local Joe Butler walked in and reminisced how "as kids we used to know everybody" around Tyalgum.

"Now you wouldn't even know a third of them, they're mostly strangers now," he said.
