Bowlers roll up for appeal

STAFF, members and guests of the Tweed Heads Bowls Club have raised $36,858 for the ClubsNSW Asian tsunami appeal.

Chairman of the board Peter Howell said yesterday half of the money had been raised through collection tins at desks manned by volunteers and staff donations which was then matched dollar-for-dollar by the board.

"Most of our members and guests are on fixed incomes or pensions, so the level of donations is all the more meritorious for that," Mr Howell said.

Club managers had donated a day's pay to kick the appeal off quickly, and on New Year's Eve, members of the board and their partners had conducted their own collection throughout the club.
