Cabarita parties at the club

CABARITA Beach and other Tweed Coast residents "reclaimed" the traditional community area in front of the Cabarita Beach Surf Life Saving Club for a Christmas Party on Saturday.

Several hundred people, including parents with children, surf lifesavers and board riders gathered for the annual Cabarita Surf Life Saving Club community Christmas Party from 2pm to 8pm.

Surf Club life member Fred Perlenfein, who joined 12 years ago, said the event not only raised substantial funds for the fitting out of the new surf club once construction is finished, but also a chance to reclaim the public area in front of the club site.

The area was overtaken by building workers and construction vehicles in the past year and part of the area was the centre of a public row over attempts to sell it to developers.
