Cudgen athletes fire up
CUDGEN Headland's young team of athletes produced an impressive performance in the junior events at yesterday's Summer Surf Series event at Tugun.
Led by Scott McCartney, the club dominated the men's under-19 events.
McCartney won the under 19 surf board but it was with his in combination with his club-mates that he really excelled.
The young competitor combined with Jarrad Cain and Robbie Miles to win the under-19 board relay and the Taplin Relay race while the trio finished third in the under-19 ski relay.
Cain and McCartney finished second in the board rescue with McCartney teaming with Brea Bailey to take out the mixed double ski.
The club's Robbie Miles finished second in the under-19 ironman event while his club-mate Noah Outteridge won under-17 tube rescue and Ryan Andrews was third in the under-15 beach flags.
The female members of the club were also in fine form with Hannah Julius and Mariki Watego teaming for third in the under-15 board rescue while Julius was also third in the rescue tube event.
Murwillumbah teenager Jordan Lack, who now competes for Tugun after starting his career with Cabarita, continued his dominance on the beach winning the under beach sprint.
Coolangatta's Kye Hawkins was in good form for his club snaring third in the under-17 male single ski event.
