Cudgen chases country titles
CUDGEN Headland Surf Lifesaving Club is hoping for a three-peat when its young nippers compete at this weekend's NSW country junior championships at Pambula.
Cudgen has won the best overall club shield at the last two championships, an honour it won't be giving up without a fight.
Today more than 40 nippers, aged between eight and 14, head to Pambula, on the NSW/Victoria border, for the competition which starts Friday.
"Traditionally, we have gone well at these country titles," publicity officer Lorraine James said.
"We are hoping to bring back the country shield again this year.
"We have got a strong team in every age group, particularly the under 14s where we have 10 competitors involved."
More than 1200 nippers from NSW clubs outside the Sydney metropolitan area will compete.
James said club trainers Ken Small and Phil Klein had worked hard to prepare competitors.
