Finalists decided in Classic Pairs

THE finalists have been decided at the South Tweed Open Classic Pairs scheduled for 10am today.

In the men's Division 1 - Section 1 (Skips only) Ray Pickard (Broadbeach) enters the final undefeated after his sixth consecutive win this afternoon against Alan Gibbs (St George).

Pickard was never headed and while Gibbs was close in the mid stages and 10 -11 down on twelve ends, Pickard did enough to win and his 8 shots to 1 over the final three ends had the final score at 19 - 11.

In the other game, Kelvin Kerkow (South Tweed) began knowing he needed not only a win plus a decent margin, but also Pickard to lose.

Despite his big win of 23 shots fellow South Tweed member Bill Boyle (leading 18 - 0 after 8 ends), it mattered little as Pickard took section 1 with 6 + 24.

In Section 2 Tweed Heads bowler Hec Beswick won and remained undefeated through his six games.

The other game featured Ray Glasser (Mermaid Beach) who needed a win and a Beswick loss to progress to the final today.

Glasser played Bob Dawson (South Tweed) and there was nothing in it after 7 ends with Glasser ahead 8 - 6. Ten shots over the next 5 ends effectively won the match. Glasser won 18-10.

In the grand final Nick Separovich (Tweed Heads) & Ray Pickard (Broadbeach) will play Peter Craven & Hec Beswick.
