Harrington thrives in tough stuff
GOLD Coast professional Peter Harrington defied treacherous conditions to score a thrilling one-shot win in the $22,000 T?&?T Building Pro-am at the Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf Club yesterday.
Harrington mastered the strong winds and fast greens to card a seven-under-par 65 on the River Course, edging out the inform Andrew Bonhomme.
"It was a great round of golf," CTH professional Russ Davies said of Harrington's performance.
"The conditions were very tough?...?the greens were hard and fast and it was extremely windy?...?it was an exceptional round."
Bonhomme, fresh from his win in the Lismore Pro-Am event at the weekend, shot a six-under 66 to grab a share of second along with fellow Queenslander Steven Bowditch.
Grant Dodd was alone in fourth spot after a 67 while Australiasian PGA Tour veteran Terry Price carded a 68 for a share of fifth spot.
Scott Gardiner led the Tweed charge, firing a 69 to finish tied for seventh in a group of four that included Gold Coaster Stuart Bouvier.
While 21 of the professionals finished the day under par, it wasn't exactly smooth sailing for others with Tour veteran Lucas Parsons (75) among those who struggled.
