INTEREST in Tweed and southern Gold Coast history remains as strong as ever if the attendence of a new history book at the Tweed Maritime Museum at West Tweed on the weekend is any indication.

The book, Look Back, the fifth in a series by Tweed historian Peter Winter, features more than 60 tales about colourful identities and events on the Tweed and southern Gold Coast.

The launch featured a speech by Coral Cogzell of Tugun, whose father, the late Ted Prowse, operated a garage in Tweed Heads and was one of those featured in the book. More than 120 people attended the launch and there was strong demand for the book.

The Tweed Heads Historical Society is currently running a display in Tweed Mall featuring photographs from the society as well as merchandise, including the Look Back series.

The display will run until Saturday.
