Hockey comp lurches off

GAME on - well sort off.

THE men's interdistrict triseries hockey competition starts this weekend although a Queensland public holiday and Gold Coast's Premier League commitments mean that half the games have been deferred.

It is the second year that the competition, which pits all the first division teams from Tweed-Border, Lismore and Gold Coast against each other, has been held.

This weekend's opening round will see Mullumbimby play Ballina and Murwillumbah United Vipers face Burleigh at Barrie Smith Hockey Field on Saturday while in Lismore Allstars play East Lismore and Waratahs face Coraki.

Kingscliff and Redbacks have both had their games against Gold Coast teams deferred.

Many of the Gold Coast teams have chosen not to play due to the May Day holiday in Queensland.
