Hotels helping to raise a smile

By KATE MCINTOSH

ALL kids love the thrill of tearing open their presents on Christmas morning, but for some this is a luxury their families simply cannot afford.

But with the help of fundraising efforts at Coolangatta Hotel needy kids and their families on the Tweed will have something to smile about this Christmas.

With help of raffles throughout the year, the hotel was able to buy almost $700 worth of games and toys which were yesterday donated to the charity organisation Kids In Need.

Gaming and Promotions Manager Cheryl Hemsley said it was important to give something back to the community especially at Christmas time.

"Giving and sharing is a wonderful gift. Seeing a smile on kids' faces is just wonderful," she said.

Ms Hemsley said Coolangatta Hotel had given support to various local charities throughout the year and annually held raffles to raise money for toys and gifts.

"Christmas is a special time of year and so we have joined forces with Kids In Need to try and make a difference," she said.

President of Kids in Need Mike Lawson said that donations from businesses were especially appreciated at this time of year.
