IVF clinic closer to home

THERE will be less stress for Tweed mums having a child through in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) methods from now on, thanks to the expansion of a Southport fertility clinic into Tweed Heads.

Presented with a growing number of Tweed clients, Monash IVF has decided to bring all of its services south of the border.

Clients had previously been forced to travel to Southport to access treatments, as only some services were able to be provided in Murwillumbah through local doctor David Hodgson.

Monash spokesperson Karen Bell said they hoped to take some stress off clients by allowing them to have all treatments and consultations done at the Tweed Day Surgery.

"Local patients will have access to the latest technologies including IVF, embryo freezing and thawing, as well as blastocyst culture and embryo biopsy for genetic screening," she said.

Monash medical director Dr Irving Korman said a full-time local fertility clinic would make the emotional time easier and somewhat cheaper for clients.

"They won't have to leave their local areas," he said.

"This will achieve a reduction in costs due to less time off work, less travelling and the security of being able to stay within the support networks of family and friends during a very emotional time," he said.

Monash IVF is holding a free information seminar on fertility and IVF at Coolangatta's Calypso Resort on April 23 from 9am. To book call 5519 1600.
