Kids join teddy bears for a library picnic

TWEED Heads Library was stuffed with teddy bears on Friday night as more than a dozen young children and their parents settled in for for a special Teddy Bears Picnic storytelling event.

The free picnic, aimed at children aged two to seven, included bear-themed storytelling, picnic and songs.

Tweed Heads Library storyteller Angela Spiers, who has been reading to children for 15 years, said the picnic was part of a school-holiday program and complemented the library's regular weekly storytelling session.

"It's great to involve the children, they really enjoy it and it gives parents the chance to take the kids somewhere that doesn't cost them an arm and leg," she said.

Children brought along their favourite teddy and a pillow.

One parent said her two young girls had great fun.

"They feasted on honey sandwiches ? without the crust ? Milo drinks, grapes and tiny teddy biscuits?.?.?.?and of course, they loved being read 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears' and 'The Garbage Dump Bear' ", she said.
