Kingscliff residents afraid to speak out about gangs
RESIDENTS of some Tweed coastal towns are living in fear, too afraid to speak out about potential gang problems for fear of reprisal.
The Daily News spoke to several Kingscliff residents yesterday following the alleged gang violence in Murwillumbah on Tuesday night.
None of those spoken to wanted to be named, but those who were willing to speak about the problems made it very clear the gangs were around.
Sources said the gangs came from areas such as Cabarita, Kingscliff, Tweed Heads and Bilambil and were known to behave violently.
Most admitted they did not know of anyone involved in the gangs, but said it was known that they existed.
Whether or not those asked knew anyone or not is questionable, due to the sense of unease when gang names were mentioned.
