Local teenager wins Single Fin



BURLEIGH teenager Tim Hyland upstaged three-time world masters champion Gary Elkington to win the Burleigh Heads Single Fin competition on the weekend.

Hyland, 18, dominated Sunday's final held in 1.5 metre waves.

Elkington, who won the world masters title in 2000, '01 and '03, finished second ahead of Burleigh duo Paul Surman and Jay Thompson.

Another Burleigh surfer, Josh Stewart, finished fifth with 2004 event champion Rique Smith rounding out the six-man final.
