Murwillumbah man fights for his life

A 25-year-old Murwillumbah man is fighting for his life after an assault at Bilambil Heights in the early hours of Saturday.

The man remains in a critical condition and police have charged a 21-year-old man from Crystal Creek over the incident.

Police allege the two men were travelling in a car accompanied by a woman.

The trio were driving along Scenic Drive about 12.30am when it is alleged an argument started between one of the males and the female. The other man tried to intervene, inciting an argument between the two men. According to police the car stopped and the two males stepped out of the car and continued to argue before a physical fight began.

It is alleged the 21-year-old man threw a punch at the 25-year-old man, causing him to fall heavily to the ground, rendering him unconscious.

The man was taken to The Tweed Hospital and later transferred to Gold Coast Hospital where he remains.

The 21-year-old man was arrested about 1.30pm Sunday. He has been charged with reckless wounding causing grievous bodily harm. He was granted bail and is due to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court on November 3.
