Peter looks back again

THERE'S not too much historian Peter Winter doesn't know about the Tweed and southern Gold Coast, but what he does know can be found in his 'Lookback' series, with volume five about to be launched this Sunday.

Lookback Volume 5 will be launched at the Tweed Heads Historical Society's ground on Kenndey Drive, West Tweed Heads at 11am (DST) to coincide with the society's John Oxley Family Picnic Day, which celebrates the famous explorer's discovery of the Tweed River in 1823.

Guest speaker at the launch will be Coral Cogzell, of Tugun, whose father was the late Ted Prowse, of the former Prowse's Garage in Tweed Heads.

His story is one of 62 historical tales which appear in the volume.

Refreshments will be offered after the launch. Peter will also be at the historical society's photographic and book display in Tweed Mall between November 1 and 6.
