Pool deal Toni?s dream

By TANIA PHILLIPS

IN the late 80s a young Toni McLean spent hours at the Tweed Heads South Indoor Pool doing laps as part of a Tweed Heads swimming squad. A decade later the now married young mum Toni Lewis is back again but this time she is running the show. Two weeks ago Lewis fulfilled a dream when she took over the lease at the pool. "I used to come straight from school next door at Tweed River High to swim," she said. "It was in the days of Greg Salter and my squad team mates included Chris Fy- dler, Josh Watson and Petria Thomas." Lewis swam at national level and up until four years ago still held the NSW record for the 100m backstroke. But after going to the Olympic trials for the Barcelona team and just missing selection she turned her back on national competition.
