Putting a bit of joy into festive season
BARRIE Toomath believes it is important to think of those people suffering from mental illness who are "doing it tough" this Christmas.
As chairman of Tweed Valley Mental Health Carers Network, Mr Toomath sees first-hand just how tough some people have it at this time of year. His group of volunteers have been busy collecting, sorting and wrapping parcels of food for distribution to those most needy in the community.
Mr Toomath said the parcels contained a Lions Christmas cake, a tin of ham and a variety of festive foods.
Parcels will be distributed by case workers from Tweed Heads Community Mental Health Centre, Department of Community Services, St Joseph's Community Centre and Tweed Shire Women's Service. The group is in recess until February 2 however volunteers can be reached by leaving messages on (07) 5506 7336.
