Putting ?play? back into playground
COOLANGATTA kindy kids have gained a brand new state-of-the art playground thanks to pokie funds.
The wraps were taken off the facility on Friday at the Coolangatta State Pre-school replacing an antiquated playground facility that no longer met safety standards.
Funding for the project came from the Community Benefit fund.
The playground includes a sand pit, an adventure playground with a soft fall and a paved outdoor, all under shade.
The existing equipment was installed when the school opened in 1980 and no longer measured up to safety rules.
There was also only a limited amount of shaded area which restricted outside playtime.
Proper equipment is considered essential for the physical development of youngsters, especially as many of them live in housing units.
Up to 50 children aged four to five will have use of the new facility on a daily basis and another 25 children from out-of-school-hours care.
