Roadworks ?15 years too late

BURLEIGH Heads may look like a bomb hit it with major roadworks taking up much of the Gold Coast Highway in the area, but according to the State Government, it's all for the greater good.

Queensland's Department of Main Roads has started on the first major upgrade to the highway through Burleigh Heads in 40 years. But Burleigh resident of 26 years Mal Tolhurst (pictured above) said the improvements are too little too late.

"I think they're probably about 15 to 20 years too late on addressing the traffic problem in Burleigh," Mr Tolhurst said.

Mr Tolhurst said if the Government started the works 15 years ago, they could widen the road by claiming more land but now that Burleigh is bursting at the seams, that's no longer an option.
