Series revs up

IT'S happened again. West Tweed's Mark Kuhnell lost for only the second time in five years in the Open category of the Murwillumbah District Motocross series on Sunday.

This time it was Tyalgum's Luke Wolfe who took the chequered flag in his first race of this year's series.

Kuhnell finished second and with only one round remaining, has a virtual mortgage on this year's title. His only other loss in half a decade of racing in the series came in round two when he was beaten by Tony Hall, a loss he quickly avenged the following round.

A strong field of more than 70 riders took part in Sunday's fourth round at the Murwillumbah Showground, cheered on by more than 200 enthusiasts.

The performance of young Blake Colleton was one of many highlights.

Colleton, 8, completed a memorable double over the weekend, taking out the 50cc division 2 race on Sunday, the same event he won the day before at the South East Queensland titles in Warwick. He also captured second position in the 65cc junior category on Sunday.

Ben Harris was another standout. Racing in three events, he won the over-200cc class, came second in the under-200cc class and sixth in the Open category.

The final round is on Sunday, August 14 at the showgrounds.
