Simone is champ of the beach

COOLANGATTA teenager Simone Millar has snatched her first Australian title just two years after taking up beach volleyball.

Millar and partner Larni Dibben came from behind to win the Australian Beach Volleyball Under 19s Junior Masters competition at Broadbeach yesterday.

The pair, seeded third, overcame top seeds and NSW pairing Jana Randall and Sara Battaglene in the final despite a shaky start.

Down 15-21 in the first set, the Queensland-based pair stormed back to win the second set 21-10 and force the match into a third and deciding stanza.

The final set, which was the first to 15, was a tense affair with the former Tweed River High student and her partner winning 15-9. It was sweet success for Millar and Dibben who had been runners-up in last year's National title.
