Sister act riding high

By ADAM WRATTEN

KAREN Upton plans to stampede over her two sisters as she fights for barrel-racing glory at tonight's Cabarita Bull and Bronc Spectacular. Thousands of rodeo fans are expected to head to the Cabarita Equestrian Grounds at Round Mountain tonight for the rodeo which kicks off at 6.30pm. An action-packed program, featuring all of the major rodeo events and some of Australia's top cowboys and bulls, is on offer. And, Karen's showdown with her two sisters Elissa, 22, and Katie, 18, is sure to be one of the night's highlights. Katie swept all before her at last year's rodeo, creating bull and bronc history when she won both the junior and senior barrel races. She went on to win the National Rodeo Association's overall junior champion last year and represented Australia several times. But having tasted victory for the first time recently, Karen, 25, is keen to go one up on her sisters. "It's all getting very competitive," Karen said. However, she said her dream was for an Upton "1-2-3 podium finish". There is entertainment throughout the night, with gates opening from 4pm. Tickets cost $25 for a family of two adults and three children or $10 for an adult and $5 for children under 12.
