SPEED DRAWS FANS

IT was muddy like the famous Woodstock festival and probably a bit noisier.

Speed on Tweed at Murwillumbah ? one of Australia's top historic motor racing festivals ? attracted up to 30,000 people on Saturday and yesterday despite regular showers, and was free of serious accidents.

Gosford plumber Ty Hanger received a tremendous birthday present. Mr Hanger, who turns 35 today, won the fastest lap time at Speed on Tweed this year ? 41.8 seconds in a 1977 model March Formula Atlantic race car.

The car is owned by his dad Ray, who also lives at Gosford but was born in Murwillumbah and lived in the Tweed until the 1960s.

"We really enjoy coming back for Speed on Tweed," Mr Hanger Snr said.

"It's great to catch up with old friends."
