TEENAGER Jake Whitaker is about to take a turn in the hot seat.
In what would be many a lad's dream, the 16-year-old will fill the navigator role for his racing driver dad, Peter, when the father-andson pairing contest the East Coast Targa rally this week.
Peter Whitaker is well known for his achievements in completing six consecutive Targa Tasmania rallies, earning him the rare and coveted Platinum Targa Trophy in 2003.
The Whitakers will drive a 2000 Toyota Sportiva Spyder in the five-day, 1000 kilometre rally which will include competitive sections on the famous Mt Panorama circuit at Bathurst and the Eastern Creek Raceway in Sydney.
The East Coast Targa is the only all-tarmac rally in NSW and is run on the same lines as the Targa Tasmania, with categories for vintage and post-classic cars.
Jake Whitaker will use Terratrip navigation gear and pass instructions to his dad via two-way radio.
