Top artist to attend celebration

MURWILLUMBAH residents are in for a treat when Marina Prior comes to town next weekend to help celebrate Thanksgiving Day - not to be confused with the American event.

The national day, declared by Governor General Major General Michael Jeffery last year, aims to bring Australians together to celebrate being Australian.

Murwillumbah's Church of Christ minister Ben Richarson said in light of this, Murwillumbah Ministers Fraternal wanted to hold a special event, different to a church service, to bring the community together.

"So I contacted Marina Prior and she agreed to come to Murwillumbah as the guest artist and speaker at the Thanksgiving Day Celebration on May 14 and 15," Rev. Richardson said.

"Marina Prior will sing and tell her life story at the celebration on Saturday and she will also sing at the united churches gathering on Sunday," he said.

"There is no admission to either event, Marina has very kindly waived her fee to come here. Murwillumbah High School has kindly donated the use of their hall for the event as well."

Thanksgiving Day Celebration on May 14 will begin at 3pm in Murwillumbah High School Hall. The gathering of all the Murwillumbah churches on May 15 will start at 10.30am.
