Traffic jam hits north and south



THE multi-vehicle pile-up on the Tweed Bypass caused major traffic disruptions for motorist, particularly those heading north.

Traffic marshalls were called to direct traffic away for the northbound lanes of the tweed Bypass while police, emergency services personnel and tow truck operators worked to clear the lanes.

With traffic forced to use Minjungbal Drive, huge delays quickly resulted with traffic backing up and over Sexton Hill.

Those northbound motorists already on the bypass had to wait while police arranged a turnaround point but for light vehicles only.

This subsequently meant that southbound traffic which had enjoyed a relatively smooth run, was then forced to stop while police guided stranded motorists back towards Tweed Heads South.

For traffic trying to head north, the route through Tweed Heads South was slow as bypass traffic merged with Minjungbal Drive.
