Tweed City mega-mall November launch on target

CONSTRUCTION at Tweed City Shopping Centre extensions in South Tweed is in full swing and on target for the opening of stage one on November 31.

Stage one involves the construction of a new extension to the existing centre which will house new specialty stores, a Coles supermarket and an underground carpark.

"We are now finishing the basement slabs and the upper deck," project manager Chris MacDonald said.

"We will then install the structural steel for the roof, then the walls, the roof and then finally the fitout."

Mr MacDonald, from Cadence Australia, said the basement or carpark section should be completed by the end of April.

Tweed City's Kath Shuttleworth said the up- grades will make the shopping centre the fourth largest on the coast and that everyone was looking forward to the completion of the $48.7 million project. "We've been receiving good feedback from everyone and at this stage everything is on track," Ms Shuttleworth said.

"After this first stage is open we will wait until after Christmas and start stage two when we will upgrade the mall area."
