Tweed girls grab the glory

TWEED HEADS have captured their fourth minor premiership in five years after beating arch rivals Nerang in their final Gold Coast Women's Soccer Premier League home and away game at Arkinstall Park on Monday night.

The Kangaroos had needed to win the game to take the title and the $2500 prizeoney.

In a game that had coach Belinda Kitching nervously chewing her fingernails, the side put in a gutsy come from behind performance to win, finally securing a 2-1 victory in the final 10 minutes.

Nerang scored first, early in the match with Tweed's Katie Glover scoring the equaliser just before half-time after some great lead-up work by the rest of the team. With the minutes ticking away, Glover potted her second late in the game - again after some solid team-work to hand Tweed victory.

Kitching said her team had performed very well doing all the little things well and had been the best team on the night.
