Tweed lads tops at titles

BY RICHARD PHILIP

NSW Primary schools had their state championships last week at Penrith.

The trip was great, the weather wasn't so great but the boys had a great week.

We had six boys from our area in the North Coast team Jake Farrell, Murwillumbah East, Dylan Wotherspoon, Murwillumbah East, Chris Fahy, Murwillumbah East, all Redbacks Club players and Alex Hetherington, Murwillumbah Primary, Dean Standfield, Burringbar, Andrew Butturini, Burringbar all Waratah players.

The boys all played really well coming first in their pool with wins against Mackillop 3-0, Polding 5-1, Sydney West 10 -0, Riverina 3-0 and Hunter 7-0.

With the last day washed out the boys were declared joint winners with South Coast after coming first in their pool.

So this makes them state champions of New South Wales Primary School's Boy's Hockey.

The boys all played outstanding hockey and really shone above the other teams.

Dylan Wotherspoon and Jake Farrell were selected in the the NSW Team to contest the Australian Primary School's Championships to be held in Toowoombah later in the year.

WITH the wet weather last week seeing most sports being cancelled we were still able to play hockey on the artificial surface at Murwillumbah.

We even hosted a couple of games from the Gold Coast where fields were out of action.

Well, we helped them out - for a small fee of course.
