Tweed MP tips one for job

TWEED MP Neville Newell says the contest for the leadership of the NSW Labor Party will more than likely be a one-horse race.

"I do not think there will be much speculation in the party, maybe there will be in the media," Mr Newell said. "They (the media) might want to see a six-horse race but it will be a one-horse race.

"I am just not willing to say who that one horse might be at this stage."

Mr Newell also tipped that a reshuffle of Cabinet was unlikely as there had been two recent reshuffles carried out by Mr Carr.

Mr Newell said he had been a "little bit surprised" at the announcement yesterday, but he was delighted that Mr Carr had the chance to retire at a time of his choosing.

"I wish him well and thank him for his work over the past 10 years," Mr Newell said.

Mr Newell said the party was in a good position to find a leader that would continue the good work.
