Tweed River students gain early diploma entrances
ALEXA Gordon is doing her last HSC exam today, and despite being stressed-out about her preparation, she isn't too worried about her future. Along with seven other Tweed River High Students, Alexa has secured a place in a diploma course at Gold Coast Institute of TAFE.
With hopes to become a pediatric nurse, Alexa, along with Cassie Boothroyd, has secured a place in the Diploma of Nursing (pre-enrolment) course through the institute. She said even though she had also applied to study at university, if she does not get in, the TAFE course would give her skills she could later be credited for when doing her nursing degree.
"Applying for TAFE was my back-up plan," Alexa said.
Lindsey Swaddle, who has secured a spot in the Diploma of Community Welfare Work along with Tamara Moon, said going to TAFE would be an inexpensive way to test whether social work was the career for her.
"I'll use my time at TAFE to work out if this is really what I want to do," she said.
Fellow students Taneille McEwan and Joanne Patterson, will study Business (Marketing and Advertising); Amy Hagen, Business Management/Business (Human Resources); and Chase McGubben, Music Performance.
