Tweed sides in state finals



TWEED Border Hockey's under-18 men and women's teams have reached the finals of the Queensland State titles to be held today. The men's side will take on Bundaberg at Bundaberg while the women face the Gold Coast at Warwick. Both sides are current- ly in second division and victory today will see them promoted to the top grade for next year. The Border men have been in top form defeating Gympie 2-1 in their opening game before beating Warwick 9-0. Border lost their third pool game to Bundaberg 4-3 but still finished second and went on to beat Mackay 2-1 in the semi. The girls, coached by former Australian players Sharon Buchanan and Kim Crane, are undefeated after four games beating Cairns 5-0, Toowoomba 2-0, and Brisbane 1-0. They survived a tough semi against Bundaberg winning 4-3 on penalty strokes after the match was locked at 1-1 at full-time.
