WINNERS ARE GRINNERS
By ED SOUTHORN
NEW Tweed MP Geoff Provest and NSW National Party leader Andrew Stoner have promised an army of North Coast National MPs, elected on Saturday, will have the power to influence Labor government policy.
Mr Provest was yesterday feeling "relieved and elated" after achieving a swing of at least twice the four per cent needed to oust Labor's Neville Newell, who had held the Tweed seat since 1999.
The Nationals' Tweed victory was a rare win for the Coalition with Labor retaining govern- ment probably with a 15-seat majority to return Morris Iemma as premier.
But the Nationals now hold every northern NSW coastal seat, with Don Page in Ballina, Andrew Fraser in Coffs Harbour, Andrew Stoner in Oxley and Steve Cansdell in Clarence, as well as Thomas George in Lismore, all returned.
