Apology: Curtis was not speaking for chamber in letter

IN this week's Daily News, we ran a letter from Rory Curtis who was demanding answers from Richmond MP Justine Elliot.

In the letter, Mr Curtis asked Mrs Elliot to explain why she called for his resignation as Tweed Chamber of Commerce president, while making no similar demands of Fingal residents group head Dawn Walker.

Ms Walker is the Greens candidate for Richmond.

Mr Curtis came under fire earlier this month for supporting Nationals candidate for Richmond Matthew Fraser at his campaign launch.

Mrs Elliot had previously said that was wrong and the chamber should be politically neutral.

Mr Curtis, however, said he was speaking as an individual and not as the chamber boss when he backed Mr Fraser.

In this week's paper, we wrongly signed Mr Curtis' letter with his chamber position.

We apologise unreservedly to Mr Curtis and for any confusion caused.

The letter should have been signed to indicate Mr Curtis was speaking as an individual, not for the chamber on this matter.
