Armed robbers target sports club and flee with cash

POLICE are investigating an armed robbery at the Kirra Sports Club at Coolangatta last night.

Two men ran through the front door of the club on Appel St around 10pm one armed with a firearm and another with a hammer.

The men approached workers and ordered a female patron to get onto the floor.

They then ordered a staff member into an office area where they demanded money.

The men stole an undisclosed sum of cash and then left in a silver dual cab utility which was last seen being driven on Miles St.

One man was described as being Pacific Islander in appearance, about 175cm tall, aged in his late 20s to early 30s, stocky build and wearing a red hooded jumper and dark pants.

The second man is described as medium build, around 160cm tall, aged in his late 20s, wearing a dark grey jumper and also described as Pacific Islander appearance.

No injuries were sustained during the robbery.

It's the third robbery at the club since June 2011.
