Armed hold-up at Sawtell newsagency

DETECTIVES are investigating an armed robbery at the Sawtell Newsagency this morning.  

A lone offender with his face covered held up a female employee with a knife and demanded cash around 6am.

"We were just about to open for the morning when he ran through the front door, which was unlocked, but still closed," the employee said.

"It was very frightening. He just started yelling 'get behind the counter' and to hand him money.

The offender threatened the staff member with the knife.

"He yelled 'open the till,' 'you have two minutes hurry up, don't argue.'

Handed cash the armed offender fled the First Ave store.   

Witnesses told police he made away in a dark coloured Nissan Skyline, which police believe may have been stolen in the local area last night.

A description of the offender was circulated to officers in the Coffs Clarence Local Area Command over police radio.

He was described as 180 to 185cm in height and of a dark complexion.

The offender wore dark track pants, a blue/black jacket with a hoodie and a cap underneath.

Police recovered the skyline used in the robbery a short distance away in the Toormina area.
