Artist will canvas the concept of escapism

ART has always been a means of escapism, but Cabarita artist Elaine Green has, well, made it an art.

Her exhibition E-Scapes was hung at the Kartel Espresso Bar at Cabarita Beach today.

"I often create works that depict the places I escape to," she said.

"I thought it would be a novel concept for an exhibition."

Ms Green takes photos or sketches scenes before painting.

"Some of these places are imaginary when it comes to drawing," she said.

Ms Green started painting as an adult.

"It wasn't one of those child prodigy things," she said.

"I was going through a tough time and used art as a kind of therapy.

"I became obsessed with it."

She is now studying a visual arts degree through the Southern Cross University.
