Ashes whitewash a ratings bonanza for Nine

YESTERDAY'S series-clinching Ashes whitewash was the second highest rating test match ever for Channel 9.

More than 2.97 million viewers watched the Aussies take back the urn from England and officially claim the early 5-0 victory on the third day of the fifth test in Sydney.

It's the highest ever rating New Year session and the second highest rating test match ever, behind the 2006 Boxing Day Test.

The Cricket Australia Live app has received 12.3 million visits throughout the Ashes series.

The whitewash dominated social media yesterday as well, with #Ashes tweets peaking at 1,188 tweets per minute during the third session of play.
