Wild, wild west: Man who shot at pig shooters in court

CHARGES against a Millmerran man accused of firing on pig shooters, striking them with the butt of his rifle and shooting out their rear tyre have again been mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Justin Colin Mawer, 37, is also accused of threatening the two complainants and taking their cash and pig dogs after the incident on a road adjacent to Mawer's property outside Millmerran on the afternoon of March 10.

He has not been required to enter any pleas to the charges which include two counts of armed robbery, two of assault occasioning bodily harm, two of threatening violence and one count of wilful damage.

Mawer has been held in custody since his arrest days after the alleged incident.

Magistrate Damian Carroll was asked to set the matter down for a committal mention, giving the police time to compile a brief of evidence on the case.

There being no application for bail, Mr Carroll remanded Mawer in custody and adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on June 11.
