Asylum seeker boat crew member saved after 12 hours in water

A CREW member from an asylum seeker boat has been rescued by Australian authorities after falling overboard and floating in the water for up to 12 hours.

Passengers told authorities the vessel's master was missing shortly after they were picked up by navy vessel HMAS Bathurst on Sunday.

A patrol aircraft spotted the man who was believed to have been in the ocean for up to 12 hours, Australian Customs and Border Protection Service chief Michael Pezzullo says.
