Aussie Sevens hit by injury

NEW Australian coach Geraint John will take an injury-weakened line-up into this weekend's Dubai Sevens tournament, with speedster Shannon Walker one of the key losses due to a foot issue.

Afa Pakalani (shoulder) is also unavailable, while veteran forward Jesse Parahi will miss the round after breaking a finger at training.

The good news is that the pacy duo of Greg Jeloudev (ankle) and Allan Fa'alava'au (ineligible) return after sitting out the 2014-15 world series opener on the Gold Coast in October.

Australia exited in the quarter-finals of that tournament after losing 12-10 to South Africa.

The Aussies have drawn Kenya, the USA and England in their pool.

The women's teams are also in Dubai this weekend, with the round counting towards qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Australia kicked off its campaign last night with pool matches against South Africa, France and Spain.
